Get Your Grain

_lonetree

. . .  For most certainly I tell you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. – Matthew 17:20 (WEB)

All we need is a grain to start.

“Thus saith the LORD . . .” is a grain of mustard seed, regardless of what we feel or think or know about a situation. We should add whatever faith we have to the power of God’s Word. Believe in His Word, which has power. He spoke the universe into existence.

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. – Romans 10:17

God speaking to us in prayer is a grain of mustard seed. That seed will need to be watered, and fed, with the Light of Almighty God shining on it. Then it can break through the ground and begin to be seen (that which was unseen can start to be seen in our mind and heart). This is not the time to become discouraged. The seed will be small at first, but then it will grow if we keep feeding it with faith and speaking His Word. Remember that God’s promises are “yes” and “amen” (2 Corinthians 1:20).

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.  – 1 Peter 5:6-7

Humbling ourselves before the Lord, and trusting Him, is a grain of mustard seed. During the winter, a tree is dormant and does not seem to grow. For us, it may be a season in life when we feel stuck. Sometimes it’s even a season in our prayer life, but keep feeding and watering seeds of faith. Eventually, like in Springtime, faith will noticeably grow again. Our faith can gain in strength until it cannot be ignored! Spring becomes Summer. The seed of faith has grown large. Our faith in God can grow until other people see it. Then we are like a tree waving in the wind of God’s Spirit. As faith multiplies, and God’s Word become more active, it can also encourage others around us to have more faith.

Prayer for today: Lord God, sometimes my faith is little. But you have faith. Lead to the right places in your Word today, so I can receive the faith you want me to have. When that faith grows, it can grow so big that it outgrows the situations I face. Grant me the faith to move mountains that I cannot move on my own. Faith is a gift from you Father, and may it grow in me. I ask you for faith, in the Name of Jesus. Amen!

Darkness and Light

IMG_1199

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. – Genesis 1:2-4

Before we are born again, we are without form and void. Another way to say this is that we are without purpose and void of Light. Spiritually, we have have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). But God wants to divide the light from the darkness in us. Remember what Jesus said about light and darkness.

The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness. – Luke 11:34-35

We are all born for a purpose. We might seek to find it somewhere in the world, or deep within ourselves. We seek purpose through our relationships, or career, or in gaining knowledge. It is so easy to be led into this type of thinking. We have been told many times,”Be true to yourself”, or “Follow your dreams”, or “Do what you are passionate about”. But are we really complete in the right relationship, or the best career, or in learning as much as we can about ourselves and the world? We may get some satisfaction from those things, and care deeply about them. But we are truly only complete in Jesus Christ.

And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power. – Colossians 2:10

The true Light of knowledge is in Jesus. By drawing close to Him and allowing His Light to shine upon your heart and mind, you will find your purpose in this world.

Prayer for today: Lord God, divide the light from darkness in me. Let your light shine upon my heart, mind, and life. I do not have all of the answers, but you do, and I am complete in you. Help me to know you. I ask this in your Name, Lord Jesus.

Strength for Today

Sun and clouds

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. – Ephesians 6:10

Our human strength will only carry us so far. There is much more strength in Jesus Christ than we could ever have on our own. When we give ourselves to Him, He can do amazing things. Regardless of where you are in life right now, I encourage you to allow Jesus to strengthen you with His strength.

It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect. – Psalm 18:32

Do you feel that you are too weak to live a righteous, moral life? Do you think God cannot and would not want to work through you? Weakness is part of being human, but the Lord Jesus provides His grace specifically to you.

And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. – 2 Corinthians 12:9

Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, I lack strength in my mind, in my heart, in my body. You have strength that I need for today, and I ask by your grace to give me your strength. I ask you to strengthen my mind, so I can think right thoughts and dismiss wrong thoughts. Guard my heart, and help me in my emotions and will. Heal my body the way only you can. I lay these requests at your feet, and I thank you for hearing me. In the Name of Jesus I pray, amen.
